Chris Brown – Royalty: Album Review

I was super excited for this album to drop when first announced. I’ve always been a Chris Brown fan and the hype for it was so real, I really thought it was going to be masterpiece and go down as a classic. You can see where I’m going with this.. I was wrong and frankly I’m slightly disappointed.

When hit singles Liquor, Zero and Back To Sleep released, everyone screamed YES he’s back with some dope songs for his seventh studio album. It’s not terrible; I just expected some soulful R&B with a couple club anthems not a commercial pop record which it feels like. He spoke in various interviews about taking his time in the studio, creating something great, something personal, and with the album title being named after his daughter – it just didn’t deliver unfortunately.

We all like songs about sex and relationships, its natural but it lacks vision and growth from him as a person, especially after going through so many changes this past year. I wanted to hear so much more, feel more. Don’t get me wrong, Picture Me Rollin, Little Bit, Fine By Me, Blow It In The Wind and couple others will get played on my speakers occasionally but overall it’s not my favourite album out at the moment. If you’re a CB fan like me then it’s worth listening to, just don’t expect to be amazed. Oh and check out all the visuals on YouTube – pretty sick.

Anyways, this is just a slip up – he still remains as one of the biggest male artists right now and I’m sure we have a lot more of his music and creativity to look forward to in the future.
