FINALLY had time to listen to Dr Dre’s Compton album, everybody was waiting for this to drop after he scraped Detox from releasing. Did it reach expectations? Honestly, I think so. It’s not going to be to everyone’s taste but if you want to be reminded of those NWA days with a twist, then it’s for you.
Let’s be honest, this may be a ‘Dre’ album because he’s the mastermind behind the project (he be making money as usual) but the entire album is filled with guest features including Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Marsha Ambrosius and Anderson. Paak to name a few. Not saying that’s a bad thing but in fact quite amazing, he managed to get various artists together and produce songs that reflect upon the Compton hip-hop scene but sounding within this current era. I won’t go in-depth because I feel I need to listen to it a few more times but the album is well constructed.
It’s crazy. I won’t lie, there’s couple songs that I think too much is going on but there’s also a couple I already love and will get played continuously. Each to their own really, I’ve heard mixed reviews. If you haven’t listened to it already, go do that. Unfortunately it’s not up on Spotify yet but you can try stream it on iTunes / Apple Music ..or you know – buy it.
Looking forward to seeing Straight Outta Compton soon.
